Black Locust Tree Fall

October 26, 2018

In early October, a large black locust tree (#136) fell just east of Holly Dr on the Riverview Lands. A review by the Riverview Lands Arborist, Dr. Julian Dunster, confirmed that the tree fell due to extensive root rot. The large tree will be salvaged and used by the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital's workshop program.

Dr. Dunster said that two adjacent black locust trees (#137 and #226) also show signs of root rot. Under his direction, BC Housing will signficantly reduce the crown of both trees to help them produce a new one to survive the suspected root rot. We used a similar process on a nearby fallen tree that has since significantly resprouted. We hope both trees (#137 and #226) experience similar success.
